Beacon Network Executive Principal Alex Magaña has a proven track record of increasing academic achievement in DPS schools serving high poverty/high minority populations. Magaña graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance. While quite successful in the accounting field, Magaña always felt a strong desire to give back to education what education has given him: success. After teaching in Florida he moved to Denver, where he worked as a math teacher. Shortly thereafter, he obtained his Masters Degree from the University of Denver and continued to advance professionally becoming a math coach, an assistant principal, and ultimately, a principal. Over the years that Magaña has guided GBMS, the school has been nationally recognized for its Innovative practices and boasts one of the highest academic growth rates of all middle schools in the district.

EXECUTIVE PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

I am honored to be one of the first Executive Principals in Denver Public Schools. I welcome the opportunity to continue to build on the academic achievements we have made at GBMS and to set KBMS on a similar road to success.

The structure we provide within the Beacon Network prompts our students to become engaged achievers that are eager to learn. They are prepared to move on to high school, college and career.

We attribute much of our success to the outstanding quality of our teachers and to community partnerships with parents, individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations. These partnerships allow us to offer a variety of enrichments that students may not otherwise experience. These programs help young people learn about topics that sometimes become lifelong passions such as science and technology, art, dance and sports. These partnerships also provide valuable family support and bring additional resources to the school that enhance our curriculum. We urge you to consider becoming a partner or a donor to the Beacon Network. Join us by making an investment in the future of our students.

If you would like to learn more about the Beacon Network or have any questions or ideas, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
