Alex Magaña, Executive Principal, has a proven track record of increasing academic achievement in schools serving high poverty/high minority populations in Denver Public Schools. Magaña graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance. While quite successful in the accounting field, Magaña always felt a strong imperative to give back to education what education had given him: success. After teaching in Florida he then moved to Denver, Colorado and worked further in education as a math teacher. Shortly thereafter, he obtained his Masters Degree from the University of Denver and continued to advance professionally — becoming a math coach, assistant principal, and ultimately a principal. In the nine years that Magaña has guided the leadership at GBMS, the school has been nationally recognized for its Innovative practices, and boasts one of the highest growth rates of all middle schools in the district.
