Alex Magaña, Executive Principal, has a proven track record of increasing academic achievement in schools serving high poverty/high minority populations in Denver Public Schools. Magaña, graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance. While quite successful in the accounting field, Magaña always felt a strong imperative to give back to education what education had given him: success. After teaching in Florida he then moved to Denver, Colorado and worked further in education as a math teacher Shortly after, he obtained his Masters Degree from the University of Denver and continued to advance professionally –becoming a math coach, assistant principal, and ultimately a principal. In the nine years that Magaña has guided the leadership at GBMS, the school has been nationally recognized for its Innovative practices, and boasts one of the highest growth rates of all middle schools in the district.
Executive Vice Principal
Mr. Walsh is a Denver native and a product of Denver Public Schools. He spent the early part of his childhood living in the Westwood neighborhood and attended Knapp Elementary School. After graduating from Denver East High School, Mr. Walsh attended the University of Colorado Boulder for his undergraduate degree. He has also attended Metropolitan State College of Denver and the University of Colorado Denver. Prior to becoming Assistant Principal at Kepner Beacon MS Mr. Walsh was a celebrated math teacher for 10 years, all in DPS middle schools serving Southwest Denver. This is Mr. Walsh’s first year as an administrator and he is excited to make KBMS the best middle school in the city.
